Frequently Asked Questions

How can I be ready before and after the crisis?

In the context of domestic violence, having a safety plan in a domestic violence situation will help you to take the necessary steps to ensure your safety.

How can L’Escale MadaVic Inc. help me?

L’Escale MadaVic Inc. is more than a transition house. During the first meeting, a caseworker assesses each woman’s and children’s needs and suggests services adapted to their needs. If we cannot meet your needs, we will put you in touch with a resource that can.

How much do L’Escale MadaVic’s services cost?

All services provided by L’Escale MadaVic Inc. are free, confidential and safe for you and your children, whether you stay here or not. We can also listen to you, provide support and short or long-term follow-ups.

What do I need to bring?

Here is a list of important items to prepare for you and your children before your stay in a transition house:

• Clothes and shoes (plan for temperature changes)

• Medications and prescriptions

• Toiletries

• Health and vaccination records

• Marriage certificate

• Birth certificates

• Passports

• Immigration papers

• Medicare card

• Social insurance card

• Previous years’ income tax returns

• House and car keys when applicable

• Personal items (family photos, jewelry, other important objects)

• Toys and objects that are meaningful to your children

If I go to L’Escale MadaVic Inc., do I have to stay in the transition house at all times?

No! Although we ask you to remain available to settle your situation, you are free to go out and do your normal activities, as long as the transition house’s safety is not compromised and the organization’s code of conduct is respected. It is important to know that the services are offered on a voluntary basis.

How long can I stay at L’Escale MadaVic Inc.?

There is no set duration. The stay can vary from a few days to several months, depending on the situation and the needs.

If I go and meet with you, are you going to encourage me to leave my partner?

Our intervention is based on the values of respect, autonomy and freedom. Our work is to suggest tools to women that will allow them to regain their independence and self-confidence. At L’Escale MadaVic Inc., each woman is solely responsible for her decisions.

I am afraid of leaving; I don’t want to deprive my children of their father?

Children who witness domestic violence are also victims. Regardless of your decision, Mr. will always be your children’s father. However, be aware of the fact that living somewhere where they witness abusive behaviours has negative consequences on your children. And so, you must ensure their safety and healthy development.
